The legend says that low voltage outdoor lighting got started in 1950s in California where a man called Bill Locklin were asked to install a outdoor lights for a house. Back then the typical outdoor lighting was composed by using 120 volts lamps which were quite expensive. So Locklin decided to improvise and created the outdoor lighting by using jars, tractor headlights and juice cans. He powered it with car battery. Locklin didn’t know that the client was ordering the outdoor lighting because he was waiting a visitor. The visitor was President Dwight Eisenhower with the first lady. Anyhow the Eisenhowers loved this improvised lighting system and ordered one for them. Since then low voltage outdoor lighting is quite popular among gardeners and house owners around the country.
Nowadays low voltage outdoor lighting includes mainly the same product range as usual outdoor lighting. The main difference is that low voltage lighting is powered by 12 volts current. For example most cars use 12 volts current. Low voltage systems usually come with transformer that converts the usual household current to 12 volts current. So as typical outdoor lights low voltage ones usually have timers and moving sensors to control the time when lights are on. Great advantage of low voltage outdoor lighting is that it is safe. 12 volts lamps could be installed or repositioned while the power is on. It is extremely helpful when you want to make changes of your garden lighting at night. Another advantage of low voltage lighting is that wiring is very lightweight compared the standard voltage products. Not to mention the lower energy consumption.
Low voltage outdoor lighting can give the same effect as standard outdoor lighting systems. If you choose low voltage lights then you will reduce the electricity consumption. This means you have contributed to save the word.
